Majisha Jahan Disha

Lecturer, Department of Computer Science & Engineering

BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh

I graduated with honors in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). My research journey began during my undergraduate thesis, where I focused on hybrid metaheuristic algorithms for cloud computing systems under the guidance of Dr. Rezwana Reaz.

Around the same time, while building a mobile application for diabetes management, I discovered a deep passion for applying computer science to healthcare and disease diagnostics. This pivotal experience shifted my trajectory toward health informatics. I am currently collaborating with Dr. Novia Nurain to investigate literacy surrounding female endocrine disorders to design culturally responsive digital health interventions, and working with Dr. Rahat Jahangir Rony on physiological metric analysis to optimize healthcare workloads and inform medical policy.

Currently, I am a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BRAC University. I teach undergraduate courses Digital Logic Design, Discrete Mathematics, and Numerical Methods, while also co-supervising an undergraduate thesis team developing an AI-based smart hazardous waste detection and risk mapping framework for healthcare facilities.

When I’m not diving into research papers or teaching, I love watching movies and series, which always spark new creative perspectives. If I ever feel tired or restless, I put on my headphones and go for a long walk—it is my ultimate way to clear my mind. I am also an avid cafe-hopper, always on the lookout for new spots to try out unique coffee beans and specialty teas.

I am deeply passionate about discussing Health Informatics, HCI, and Algorithms, and I’m always open to potential collaborations to drive research innovation.

Fusing exploration and exploitation: hybrid fireworks–whale optimization for multi-objective independent task scheduling in cloud environments

Abdullah Nayem Wasi Emran*, Majisha Jahan Disha*, Reazwana Reaz

Cluster Computing (Springer Nature), Vol. 29, Issue 9. ISSN: 1386-7857

Key Contribution: Introduces a novel 4-way hybridization framework combining the Fireworks Algorithm (FWA) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). Demonstrates superior multi-objective performance (makespan, cost, energy optimization) over benchmark algorithms in independent task scheduling for cloud platforms.

Principal Investigator Supervisor: Dr. Novia Nurain (BUET)

Female Endocrine Disorders & Interactive Digital Health Interventions

Investigating community health literacy surrounding female endocrine disorders to design culturally responsive, serious-game interventions for youth and young adults.

Manuscript in Progress Target: ACM CSCW

Survey Insights & Co-Design Outcomes on Female Endocrine Health

Analyzing survey data and participatory co-design sessions to uncover socio-cultural barriers and design requirements for endocrine health education via serious games.

Ongoing Target: CHI PLAY / JMIR

Serious Game for Youth Hormonal Health Literacy

A culturally appropriate interactive game helping young adults recognize symptoms, challenge misconceptions, and make informed decisions on seeking clinical care.

Co-Investigator Ongoing
